JCPenney announced which locations will close, included are four Wisconsin locations and four in the Upper Peninsula.
Pine Tree Mall in Marinette, Marshfield Mall in Marshfield, Richland Square Shopping Center in Richland Center and Rapids Mall in Wisconsin Rapids are the locations closing in Wisconsin.
An official with JCPenney tells Local 5 that the Marinette store currently employs 25 people.
Also on the list of closings are four locations in the U.P. Those stores are the Delta Plaza in Escanaba, the Birchwood Mall in Kingsford, the Copper Country Mall in Houghton, the Cascade Crossing in Sault Ste. Marie.
In February, the department store chain announced that they would be closing up to 140 locations.
“We understand that closing stores will impact the lives of many hard working associates, which is why we have decided to initiate a voluntary early retirement program for approximately 6,000 eligible associates. By coordinating the timing of these two events, we can expect to see a net increase in hiring as the number of full-time associates expected to take advantage of the early retirement incentive will far exceed the number of full-time positions affected by the store closures,” said Marvin R. Ellison, chairman and chief executive officer of JCPenney.
Those impacted by the job cuts are said to be receiving separation benefits.
The company did not give an exact date of the closings but said it would be over the next couple months.
