Local law enforcement remember fallen officers

(WFRV) — Law enforcement departments around the area are taking part in National Police Officer Week in different ways, from flag raising ceremonies to community involvement. 

In Appleton, the Department had police vehicles on display as well as the Appleton Police Explorer’s Brat Fry at the Houdini Plaza. Also during the event, a limited number of bicycle helmets were given to children who were there with their parent or guardians.

The Green Bay Police Department held a brief ceremony in honor of Law Enforcement Week. There will be a presentation of the colors by the Green Bay Police Department Honor Guard. The ceremony is a tribute to police officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. 

In Fond du Lac Police Department has had three officers killed in the line of duty, dating back to 1898. On Wednesday they hosted a ceremony honoring the Fond du Lac Police Officers who lost their lives as well as Wisconsin State Trooper Trevor Casper who was killed in the city. 

Six members of the Fond du Lac Police Department have also taken the time to travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in National Police Week ceremonies and events. They began by taking part in the Police Unity Tour Bike Ride where thousands join on a 300-mile ride to the National Law Enforcement Memorial. 

In Manitowoc, the Police Department will be remembering fallen officers throughout the United States including officers from Manitowoc, Two Rivers and Kiel.
