Work is underway on a building project in downtown De Pere that has many people excited. Local 5’s Kris Schuller reports the construction creates new sought after living space along the Fox River.

On the corner of North Broadway and George Street the sounds of progress. As work gets underway on Jason Tadych’s $5 million mixed-use development, The 102 on Broadway.

“To finally get into the ground and start to realize the fruits of our labor is very exciting,” said Tadych.

By early summer of 2017 this five-story building, with commercial space on the ground floor and 29 luxury apartments on floors two – five should be completed.

“The view profile once we get up on the higher floors is really magnificent,” said Tadych of Broadway Development Partners. “These are going to be high-end luxury units, with indoor parking, elevators and a secured building – really a niche that hasn’t been served in this marketplace.”

The project is funded in part by the City of De Pere – in an effort to redevelop this section of downtown. Community Development Director Kim Flom says the apartments will attract Baby Boomers eager to live along the Fox River.

“There are folks that maybe want to downsize their home, don’t want as much maintenance, but want a lot of opportunities for things to do,” said Flom.

“Everything is within walking distance, biking distance, it adds to the urban life people are seeking,” said Matt Hohner, executive director of Definitely De Pere.

Business owner Don Zegers says those new downtown residents will have income to spend and he’s already planning to win them over.

“You’ll have people living downtown here and all that’s going to funnel into all the shops,” said Zegers of Zegers Clothiers.

Tadych says De Pere has much to offer; restaurants, the trail and a Fox River view. Now very soon – luxury apartments in the middle of it all.

“The character and feel of downtown De Pere is a place people want to be,” said Tadych.

Rents for the one to three bedroom apartments have not yet been determined.
