Two people were taken to the hospital after an accident on I-41.
The accident happened on I-41 southbound at Highway 441near Ballard road in Appleton at 3:45 Saturday morning.
Officers responded to an OWI crash involving a highway maintenance worker who was struck while painting lines on the roadway.
A passenger in the striking vehicle was also injured.
Both were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
“We want these events to stop happening, if at all possible,” said Sgt. Andrew Jacobs, Wisconsin State Patrol. “We don’t want to see these drunk drivers get injuries. We don’t want to see them injure other drivers out there, other pedestrians that might be out there, especially workers… There were construction cones on the side of the road. There were signs before the worker’s vehicle. The worker’s vehicle was brightly lit up with different kinds of signs, and the impaired driver still missed all these markers, and still struck the vehicle.”
A 27-year-old Appleton resident was taken into custody and booked into the Outagamie County Jail for second offense operating while intoxicated causing injury.
The highway opened shortly after six Saturday morning.
