Man dies from hypothermia, drowning after being found in pond

Local News

The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office says 75-year-old James Schneck was found in a partially frozen pond on his property on Thursday around 8:20pm, with the cause of death being consistent with freshwater drowning and hypothermia. The Coroner’s Office says there’s no concern for foul play.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids to check the welfare of Schneck on Thursday after he did not arrive for a previously scheduled meeting. That’s when Deputies found him in the pond.

EMS responded and assisted with extracting him from the open water, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
