A 35-year-old man could spend about 500 years in prison for child sex crimes and drug charges, according to Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney.
On Wednesday, November 28, James O. Rasmussen was found guilty of 44 counts involving sexual assaults of children, drug charges involving children, and other related misdemeanor and felony charges.
During the three-year investigation, it was discovered that Rasmussen was providing marijuana to various children between April 2013 and August 2015. As the investigation continued, it was learned that in addition to providing various children marijuana, Rasmussen also sexually assaulted two of the children.
Rasmussen faces approximately 500 years of initial prison confinement. Rasmussen’s bond was revoked and his sentencing hearing has been set for February 8, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
The trial began on November 5, 2018 and involved nine days of court and testimony from over a dozen witnesses.
Assistant District Attorney Kristin Menzl, the lead prosecutor on the case, stated, “I’m extremely proud of the children who testified in this trial. The bravery of these children to come forward and tell their story is the reason we achieved this outcome. Justice is being served and James Rasmussen is being held accountable for his actions and the jury sent a clear message to the children that they were listened to and believed.”
