The Manitowoc Police Department reports that a man was robbed as he attempted to purchase marijuana at an apartment near Washington Street and South 16th Street.

It happened just after 5:00 Thursday night.

They say it was initially reported as an armed robbery, but during subsequent interviews with the victim, they admitted they were attempting to purchase the drug.

According to a report, the victim went to the apartment with a friend, who stayed outside during the attempted-transaction.

Police say when the man entered the apartment, he was held against his will while the suspects robbed him of his cash.

That’s when the victim began yelling for help and his friend forced his way into the apartment.

One of the suspects is said to have then pointed a handgun at the victim and friend and threatened to shoot them, however both were able to escape the apartment unharmed.

A search warrant was obtained for the apartment from the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Squad, but the suspects were not found. Police say they remain at large.

The report did not offer a detailed description of the suspects, but mentioned that there were three of them.

As the investigation continues, police ask anyone with information about the incident to please call the Manitowoc Police Department at (920) 686-6551.
