Manitowoc man leads police on chase after allegedly stealing from garage

A Manitowoc man was arrested Monday after police say he lead them on a chase after stealing from someone’s garage. 

At 4 a.m., police received a call of a burglary in progress in the 1200 block of South 20th Street. The person told police that he was walking out her garage carrying things. When she yelled at the suspect, the man started to run away. The woman told police that her son was currently following him in a car.  

Police caught up with the cars and tried to pull over the suspect. While police chased the suspect, he drove on the sidewalk in the 1800 block of Division Street for about a half block before moving back onto eastbound Division Street.

The car chase lasted about a mile and a half, and at times, reached a speed of up to 90 miles per hour. When the suspect finally pulled over, he ran from police. Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter and the suspect was eventually caught in the in the 1600 block of South 13th Street. 

Daniel Fabian, 28, was arrested and charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, felony fleeing, felony possession of marijuana, prowling and numerous traffic offenses. 

Police recovered an electric hedge trimmer and a blue duel tank air compressor. 

At this time, police say it is unknown what residence the suspect stole these other items from. Citizens are asked to check their garages and contact Detective David McCue (920-686-6570) if they are missing these items.
