Roberta Davis’s class ring went missing shortly after she graduated from Crivitz High School in 1991. 27 years later, she finally has it back.
Davis, then named Roberta Miller, says she gave the ring to her boyfriend at the time, and he lost it.
“I was upset,” she said. “I worked hard for that class ring. I paid for most of it with my own money. I was kinda sad about losing it… We broke up not long after that, and so I never really pursued it.”
Around the same time, Scott Pleau says he found a class ring in the Marinette area from Crivitz High School, with the name “Berta” on it and an image of a runner.
“I reached out to try to find the owner 2 times, maybe,” he said, “most recently, maybe 10 to 12 years ago.”
Davis says she thought about her ring frequently, but assumed she would never find it.
“I never in a million years thought I’d find it,” she said. “I thought, maybe it’s at the bottom of Lake Michigan somewhere.”
Pleau says after an old high school classmate of his found her class ring through a Facebook post, he decided to post a picture of the ring he found years earlier on Facebook, looking for the owner. He made the post last Friday, and it was shortly shared dozens of times.
That’s when Davis’s phone started blowing up with text messages and Facebook notifications. She saw Pleau’s post and realized the ring he’d been holding onto for years was, in fact, her long lost class ring.
“I was blown away,” she said. “I had tears in my eyes.”
Davis reached out to Pleau via Facebook message.
“She told me who she was,” Pleau said, “She goes, ‘I’m 100% positive that’s my ring’.”
“And he wrote, ‘yes, that’s you’,” Davis said.
Pleau shortly delivered Davis her ring.
“She was ecstatic,” Pleau said. “She jumped up and down and she gave me a big hug… It was just incredible.”
Davis said she’s worn the ring every day around her neck since she got it back.
“It’s an awesome feeling,” Pleau said. “She got her ring back that she’s missed for that many years.”
