Milwaukee Bus Driver Honored for Rescuing Toddler

Local News

A bus driver in Milwaukee is being hailed as a hero for rescuing a toddler walking alone on a freeway overpass.

On December 22, Irena Ivic was on her bus route when she saw a child wearing only a diaper and a onesie alone in below freezing temperatures. She stopped her bus, ran across the street and ran the toddler back to her warm bus. Police say the child’s mother had left her toddler outside. He was then reunited with his father.

On Thursday, Ivic was honored with the Milwaukee County Transit System Excellence award, which is given to drivers who display special acts of kindness.
