A fire on the Belmark campus in De Pere prompted multiple agencies to respond including Ledgeview, Bellevue, Ashwaubenon and County Rescue.

It happened today around 5:00 pm when a paper shredder was on fire in the mechanical room of a building. The motor had caught fire and while the fire was put out in the first ten minutes, very heavy smoke continued.

With limited ventilation and windows in the room, a decision was made to request Brown County Sheriffs Air Boat which acted like a giant fan.

The large fan and great volume of air were able to remove the smoke, save time and preserve property.

There were not injuries to Belmark staff or firefighters. They remained on the scene for about two hours.

The fire remains under investigation.
