No decision was made in Brown county court on whether a convicted killer should pay restitution to the victim’s boyfriend.
Last March 40-year-old George Burch was found guilty of murdering 31-year-old Nicole VanderHeyden.
Burch has been sentenced to life in prison.
VanderHeyden’s boyfriend, Douglass Detrie, who had initially been arrested in her death, is asking for $350,000 in restitution for the murder.
detrie is asking for $8,500 dollars for VanderHeyden’s funeral expenses, $40,000 for childcare, $8,000 for counseling he had to receive after VanderHeyden’s death and over $100,000 in legal expenses.
Detrie and VanderHeyden shared a son, but Burch’s attorney argued Detrie doesn’t deserve money because he’s not the victim in this case.
The court commissioner made no decision Monday.
He has 30 days to do so.
