APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) One person and a dog have been displaced and a cat has died following a fire in the 800 block of W. Fourth Street on Thursday at around 12:24 a.m. Nobody was injured.

The Appleton Fire Department says smoke and flames were coming from the side windows on the first floor of the two-story home when they arrived on scene. Crews say it was difficult to fight the blaze because of “an accumulated amount of contents throughout the residence.”

A search for the cat was conducted, but it unfortunately did not survive.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and it’s unknown if there were working smoke detectors in the home.

There is no damage estimate at this time.
