Sydney Ditscheit, a junior at Notre Dame Academy, will donate tie blankets to American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison.
After a UTV accident in 2016, Ditscheit received a tie blanket while recovering at American Family Children’s Hospital. She is now spreading joy and giving back to the community in her second annual Blankets for a Better Tomorrow blanket tying party.
According to Notre Dame Academy, the blanket tying party will take place Tuesday, February 19 and Wednesday, February 20 from 3:15-5:30 p.m. at Notre Dame. Ditscheit and her friends will cut and tie fleece blankets and make cards to donate to the Children’s Hospital.
“I drew my inspiration to donate blankets after my experience in the hospital. It was there that I received a blanket of my own, and I wish to spread joy and hope to other children in tough situations in the hospital. Next month, I will deliver the blankets to the American Family Children’s hospital, like I did last year,” said Ditscheit.
Last year, the first year of Blankets for a Better Tomorrow, Ditscheit received a Walt Disney grant to support the project. This year, Ditscheit started a GoFundMe to fund her project. Her passion all started from her time in the hospital.
“Months after I was released from the hospital, my friends and I were trying to think of a way we could serve our community and make a difference to others,” said Ditscheit. “When I saw the blanket I received from the hospital, it hit me that that’s how we can help.”
The group will deliver the blankets and the cards to the American Family Children’s Hospital later this month. The GoFundMe page can be found here.
