The Green Bay Police Department hopes to bring down the number of bike thefts in the city. Officers will hand out free bike locks.
The Department has teamed up with CH Robinson, a local business to combat this problem by hosting a “Bike Lock Give Away.” CH Robinson purchased over 70 bike locks for officers and their staff to give away to kids in our community.
The giveaway will be in the pavilion in Fisk Park (995 Dousman St) at 12:30 PM Wednesday.
Since the beginning of June, the Green Bay Police Department has taken 28 bike theft complaints, responded to 42 abandoned bikes, and have investigated several burglaries where bikes have been stolen. Stolen bikes continue to be a big problem.
Officers and CSI’s spend countless hours investigating these thefts and trying to return the bikes to their rightful owners. Sadly, these crimes continue to occur as evident by the number of bikes recovered annually which are eventually auctioned off.
The giveaway will be in the pavilion in Fisk Park (995 Dousman St) at 12:30 PM. Staff from CH Robinson and Community Police Officers will be handing out bike locks to children with the hope that this will prevent more bicycles from being stolen. In addition, the department’s crime prevention staff will be registering bikes for free to ensure bikes can be returned to the owner if they are lost or stolen.
