Green Bay area non-profit organization On Broadway held their annual State of Broadway event Tuesday morning, updating the public on what’s ahead in the near future. The announcements included a new mural coming to the Broadway District that will be the largest piece of public art in the city of Green Bay.
The mural – which will read “Greetings From Broadway” – is being painted by Green Bay artist Beau Thomas and will be put on the north side of the Dubois Building. It is expected to take two months to finish, and be up by September.
“If you’re not creating spaces that are warm and welcoming and inviting, that feel safe, you’re not gonna be successful with attracting talent,” said On Broadway Executive Director Brian Johnson, “so when we look at our district development plan, a big piece of that includes public art and streetscape design, and how do you curate amenities that are gonna be inviting to people?”
On Broadway also indicated four construction projects have either just begun or will begin soon: the Railyard Town Homes, the Shipyard Development, Breakthrough Fuel, and the Broadway Lofts.
“We’ve had a significant amount of redevelopment going on, which is really important to a historic district, and we really value that,” Johnson said. “But we’re just as equally excited about being able to introduce some new construction that will help encourage some of that infield development that we really need.”
Additionally, On Broadway’s website now redirects to downtown Green Bay’s website, as the two websites have merged.
