FRANKLIN, Wis. (AP) — Police have killed a man outside a suburban Milwaukee Walmart after he allegedly carjacked two vehicles.

Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell Lucas says the suspect, identified as a 31-year-old white man from Milwaukee, carjacked a vehicle and kidnapped its driver sometime before 8 a.m. Friday. He made the driver take him to a Walmart and then to a service station, where the driver told the attendant to call the police.

The sheriff says the carjacker then had the man drive him to a Walmart in Franklin, where the man told a clerk to call the police.

Officers responded and chased the carjacker.

He crashed the vehicle and immediately carjacked another vehicle. He crashed again and jumped out of the wreckage with a gun, prompting officers to open fire. The suspect was fatally shot.

Deputies say no deputies, officers, and/or individuals were injured during the incident.

According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, both the deputies and officers involved were placed on administrative leave per their department’s policies. An investigation into this incident continues.

Authorities report there is no active threat related to this incident. Local 5 will continue to update this story.

ORIGINAL: One man dead in Milwaukee County after reported shootout

FRANKLIN, Wis. (WFRV) – The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner responded to South 27 and Sycamore in the Franklin and Oak Creek area for one man that was dead.

According to WFRV’s sister station WDJT (CBS 58) in Milwaukee, a suspect had a shootout with police. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner also asked residents to avoid the area.

The School District of Greenfield mentioned that authorities advised them to place all buildings on lockdown due to a significant police matter in the community.

Milwaukee County Sheriff Earnell R. Lucas was set to provide details Friday morning on a “deputy-involved critical incident.”

There has been no update from any authorities in the area. Local 5 will update this story as more information is released.
