“Over $1 Million” in Damages Following Vandalism Throughout the Fox Valley

Local News

Appleton Police Chief Todd Thomas has released new details following the arrest of four people allegedly involved in several cases of vandalism.

According to a press release, the crimes included fires in Appleton’s downtown parking ramps, a burglary to a Fox Valley Tech home in Appleton, extensive damage to the Fox Cities Champion Center project site in Grand Chute and damage to a construction site in Little Chute.

“I think people are going to be astonished at the value of damage that these individuals did,” Thomas said during his Community Update on Local 5 This Morning. “Once we get all the numbers together it will easily be over $1 million.”

Regarding the fires at the ramps in Appleton, Thomas said it was done intentionally to “smoke out” homeless people who were sleeping in the elevator shafts at the time.

“This could’ve ended tragically,” he said. “I don’t think they understand the impact of what they did. Some of the other damage done was just because they wanted to cause damage. It makes no sense.”

The four individuals arrested are all teenagers. 18-year-old Kevin Peterson and 17-year-old Brandon Fossum, and two 16-year-olds who aren’t being named. Peterson and Fossum will be charged as adults.
