A bill proposed Wednesday would lower the legal drinking age in Wisconsin to 19.

It’s being proposed by the former president of the tavern league and two other Republican lawmakers. The bill calls for the lowering of the drinking age, but only if Wisconsin would not lose its federal highway funds. A federal law passed back in 1984 penalized states with less federal highway funding if they did not have their drinking age set at 21.
