Residents come together to celebrate Palm Sunday

Local News

Those who worship within the Christian faith celebrated Palm Sunday at church this morning.

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter, which recognizes when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, and people welcomed him by laying palm fronds on the ground in front of him.

The donkey is a sign of a humility.

On Sunday, April 14 a 9 a.m. service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Little Suamico.  Palms were given to parishioners, which can be folded into the shape of a cross.

Pastor Jerry Wirtley of the St. John’s Lutheran Church explained to the congregation the importance of Palm Sunday.

“I want you to think about what it is that you need this week, and remember that when Jesus asked for anything it was a donkey, so he could humble himself and proclaim himself the Prince Of Peace, and ride into Jerusalem to go and face his death so that we could all have life in God,” Wirtley said.
