One local men’s shelter is using the St. Patrick’s Day holiday as a way to raise funds for a good cause.

The Haven of Manitowoc county hosted their second annual “Shamrock’s for Shelter” event Saturday at Knox’s Silver Valley located in Manitowoc.

The event had raffles, food, live entertainment and other activities.

The men’s shelter’s funds go to their own programs which include resources like employment opportunities and teaching life skills.

“Our program, which is a men’s shelter program, houses 15 men at a time and 62 men a year,” says Michael Etheridge from The Haven.  “We’ve served 275 men in the last five years, so these proceeds go to expand and support the programming at The Haven.”

Organizers for the event say this is the only St. Patrick’s Day-themed event in Manitowoc.

They say 400 people came to the event last year and it looked to be about the same turnout this year.
