Emergency funding is coming to the area to help repair sinkholes that have appeared in the connected dike of the De Pere Dam.
The dike has seen several sinkholes throughout the years, but two large sinkholes that developed last year caused the city to request the emergency funding.
“The emergency restoration project is a perfect examply of just one of the ways we partner with and assist our community,” said Esther Johnson, project manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District. “Coordination with Wisconsin DNR, city of De Pere, and Fox River System Navigation Authority has been essential in the design and construction of the project.”
To fix the sinkholes, crews will use compacted soil and stone layers. The project should be complete around January 8.
