In new developments on a story we’ve been following for years.
Steven Avery’s defense attorneys filed a Motion to Supplement a previously filed motion in Manitowoc County Court in his bid for an appeal.
The Teresa Halbach murder has captured world-wide attention with the nexflix documentary — “Making a Murderer.”
Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted in her 2005 murder.
Last month Avery’s federal appeal to introduce new evidence was sent back to Circuit Court – to allow him to present the evidence there.
His attorney, Kathleen Zellner, wants a judge to allow a compact disc which she claims — has new information which could prove her client’s innocence.
Zellner filed the supplement to that motion Friday. Zellner says Avery did not receive a fair trial and there is evidence that was withheld from Avery’s defense in his murder trial that points the blame for Halbach’s murder on another relative.
In the supplement Zellner says the suppressed evidence consists of thousands of pages on a CD of sexual violence against young women being tortured and bound that would establish a motive for the murder.
It goes on to say the computer was found in Dassey’s home and was primarily used by another family member.
