Notre Dame Academy has had to reschedule their prom for Friday night due to snow, and Bay Port High School may have to reschedule its dance as well.
The Notre Dame Academy administration knows it’s the right choice, as the school’s Academy Ball would have gone on when roads will be icy and treacherous.
“Our Academy Ball was scheduled for Saturday night, we had to change it to Friday night, and that was probably the hardest decision I’ve had to make in the last three months,” Patrick Browne, principal of Notre Dame Academy, said.
Now, students are scrambling to make new plans.
Haven Salon & Spa in De Pere put out a Facebook status letting girls know they had a few spots open for appointments on Friday.
“We have had a lot of calls,” Ashley Holz, manager at Haven Salon & Spa, said. “Tomorrow we were booked up, and it’s already kind of short notice because we’re only open from 8 to 3. So we were able to fit in a decent amount of girls in for our Friday afternoon schedule, but we do still have openings.”
Notre Dame Academy students do have a full day of school on Friday, but they can be excused by their parents to get ready for the Academy Ball.
“We’re always here to help,” Holz said. “We’re big with the community, so whatever we can do to make girls’ dreams come true, we’re the girls to make that happen.”
The change is even harder for some students.
The Notre Dame Academy girls varsity soccer team has a mini tournament on Friday night, and some academy students prepping for college have an ACT test scheduled for Saturday morning.
“There were some students who said based on the fact that they want to do very well on their ACTs, that they were going to opt-out of Academy Ball, there were a few of those,” Browne said. “I was just really impressed that the students had that on their minds. I often joke that the students we have at Notre Dame are in many ways, better students than I was when I was that age. So, I’m very proud of them.”
The ACT may be rescheduled, but that decision will not be made until Saturday morning before the test.
