MARATHON COUNTY (WFRV) — A 29-year-old Pulaski man is behind bars after a nearly 100-mile car chase that spanned four counties.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop with a vehicle traveling from Brown County on State Highway 29 in the Town of Richmond Thursday night.
The driver failed to stop and several spikes were used to stop the vehicle, but attempts were unsuccessful.
The chase went into Waupaca County, returned to Shawano County on State Highway 22, then entered Marathon County on State Highway 29 just before 1 a.m. Friday.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office says speeds reached up to 90 miles per hour.
Deputies were able to stop the vehicle near the Village of Weston on I-39. They say the man did not obey deputies’ commands to exit the vehicle and they also say he had a knife.
A Marathon County crisis negotiator was called to the scene and convinced the driver to exit the vehicle.
I-39 was closed for about 2.5 hours during the incident.
The chase spanned approximately 86 miles.
The suspect was taken into custody for knowingly fleeing an officer.
