Technical Issues Cause Problems for Outagmie Co. on Election Night

Local News

A problem with the modem switch in Outagamie County on election night let to late night election results, causing the Clerk’s Office to resort to an emergency back up plan.

Laurie O’Bright of the County Clerk’s Office told Local 5 that the modem return test made on Monday went through, but even a reboot of the system last night didn’t bring the county modem returns.

When it was determined the system was not going to operate, municipal clerks were asked to send their unofficial returns by either fax copies of the tally tapes, or even by emailed photos of tapes.

The City of Appleton even drove in their thumb drives for the county to download.

The cause of the malfunction is still not known.

Those modems are due for an upgrade later this year from 3G to 4G.
