Two men in Shawano County are behind bars after reportedly fleeing from a sheriff’s deputy in a stolen vehicle.
At around 9 p.m. Thursday night, a Shawano County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol in the Village of Cecil when they were passed by what was believed to be a stolen vehicle in a no-passing zone. After failing to stop the car, the deputy went on a 6.4-mile pursuit of the stolen vehicle before it crashed in a wooded area.
The passenger of the vehicle — a 24-year-old man from Shawano — was taken into custody without incident. The driver — a 27-year-old man from Birnamwood — fled on foot. After using a K9 unit to track the driver, he was found and arrested in a burglarized burglary.
Multiple felony and misdemeanor charges are being recommended for the driver and a misdemeanor charge is being recommended for the passenger. The names of the two suspects are being withheld at this point.
