A food delivery service with a familiar name is about to launch in Green Bay and Appleton next week. As Kris Schuller reports, Uber Eats is moving in with an offering young professionals are sure to take advantage of.
At Hinterland Brewery staff prep for a busy lunch time crowd. But Michele Tressler says next week anyone who can’t make it to her restaurant can have their food home delivered through Uber Eats.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring our amazing food to people in their homes,” said Tressler, owner of Hinterland.
“We can get your local favorites delivered right to your doorstep in 30 minutes or less,” said Clay Carroll of Uber Eats.
Carroll is the general manager of Uber Eats Wisconsin. He says through an app or the company’s website – users can order food delivery whenever hungry from the menus of dozens of local restaurants.
“We brought the rides business here in 2014 and it has been successful ever since. Now we’re looking to repeat that obviously with Uber Eats.
“When you look at the amenities that people are looking for when they migrate to new communities they want to see things like this,” said Brian Johnson, executive director of On Broadway Inc.
Johnson says programs like Uber Eats and last year’s entry Food Dudes – are available in larger cities and young professionals find the services attractive. He says the offering has a number of upsides.
“When you look at the data Wisconsin is still seeing an exodus of talent – we have to find ways to create a reason to stay,” Johnson said.
“Speaking for college students a little bit here, I can guarantee it will be a really big amenity for a lot of college students,” said Caleb Sawyer while waiting for a cup of coffee in downtown Green Bay.
“It’s exciting, young people are very accustomed to operating this way ordering food this way,” said Tressler.
Good news for Tressler and the dozens of other restaurants signing on to the service, looking to reach new markets and better serve existing customers.
“We want you to get the best food at home, as if you’re in the restaurant here,” She added.
Uber Eats will officially launch on May tenth in the Green Bay and Appleton area. Competing Food Dudes moved into Green Bay in April of 2017.
