51 seniors were transferred from Maple Ridge nursing home in Ashwaubenon to a partnering nursing home in Manitowoc early Wednesday morning.

A water line break during the night prompted the swift removal of residents.

It was a busy morning for staff at The Bay North Ridge in Manitowoc.

“I think my phone started to ring about 10:30 last night and with a smooth transition I think our staff were in full force here in the facility by 11 p.m. preparing for the transfer of residents,” says Sandy Barbeau, North Ridge administrator.

After a foot of water on the second floor of The Bay at Maple Ridge started to make its way to the first floor, Ashwaubenon public safety had to find a way to get residents out of that building.

“Several of the residents were transferred by ambulance for their continued care a lot of them were also transported by other means of transportation, bus for instance,” says Barbeau.

Fortunately the North Ridge location can accommodate up to 119 residents.

With the additional individuals from Maple Ridge, they now have 110 full beds.

Nursing director Laura Weber says she was surprised to get the late night call.

“I actually said it’s a good thing iI wasn’t sleeping because I thought it would’ve been a dream and I said I’ll be right in,” says Weber.

They have enough staff to hep all of the residents.

Employees from Maple Ridge will be working at North Ridge for the time being.

Weber says having the extra hands makes lighter work.

“Everybody working together as a team, just dividing and conquering and everybody takes a job and getting it done together.”

Administrators say all transferred residents are safe and have adjusted as much as possible.

“I do not have any concerns moving forward no this was this was a great collaboration between our two.”

Local 5 reached out to Maple Ridge to see when they expect residents to return to the Ashwaubenon facility, they have not set a particular date yet.
