FdL Police release more information on Tuesday morning incident
TUESDAY 6/4/19 1:07 p.m.
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) — Fond du Lac Police have released more information about Tuesday morning’s incident.
Around 4:13 a.m., police were dispatched to the 100 block of E. Johnson Street to check the welfare of a male.
The caller stated a 27-year-old man had been “acting strangely by running around naked in the street” and that three child were in the upstairs apartment with the man, according to officials.
When officers arrived on the scene, the man had reportedly armed himself with a knife. Officers began negotiating with the suspect and the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams were activated.
FdL Police say negotiations with the suspect were sporadic. One child escaped the residence according to officers.
Around 9:10 a.m., officials say negotiations began to break down and the man started acting in a way which caused concern for the safety of the remaining two children in the home. SWAT then used an explosive breach to enter into the home.
From here, police say SWAT team members were able to rescue the remaining children. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.
Officials say no one was injured.
As previously reported, E. Johnson Street between N. Main Street and N. Park Avenue was blocked off as well as many cross streets in the area during the incident. Local schools were also notified of the “fluid situation,” according to police.
The suspect is currently being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail.
This continues to be a developing story. Local 5 will provide updates here as they become available.
