In an update to a fire we reported on yesterday, the Kaukauna Police Department is saying a garage fire was much more than it seemed.
Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department reported to a structure fire on Maloney Rd., which was located just outside the Kaukauna city limits.
Police say Kaukauna Police Officer Charlie Vosters was only a few blocks away and headed to the address to help.
The officer noticed the detached garage of a home was on fire and that flames were dangerously close to the house.
A woman told Officer Vosters her elderly husband was in the house sleeping near where the flames were approaching the home.
The man’s wife told the officer her husband had health conditions and had a difficult time walking.
Police say Officer Vosters and an unknown onlooker then ran into the smoke-filled house, located the woman’s husband, and safely got him out of the house.
After the man was rescued from the home, the room he was sleeping in became fully engulfed in flames.
Kaukauna Police say that thanks to Officer Vosters and the bystander, a much different, tragic outcome was prevented.
No one was injured in the fire.
Kaukauna police finished their public statement with an uncharacteristic personal message that we at Local 5 echo,
Well done, Officer Vosters
