UPDATE: 12/27/2018 10:55 p.m.
Officials are saying the suspicious package found by the Brown County Arena Thursday night turned out to be luggage left behind by a person while they shopped and dinned in the nearby area.
After a deputy was tipped off about the luggage just before 6 p.m., a Brown County Sheriff’s Office K-9 trained in bomb detection examined the luggage, and gave a positive indication on it. The immediate area was then evacuated and secured by law enforcement while the bomb squad examined the luggage, ultimately finding nothing suspicious.
“There was some cleaner chemicals and some different things, just from like toiletries and stuff,” said Lt. Jason McAuley, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, “and there was a shell casing, I don’t know how fresh, but had been made into a necklace. And obviously some of those things could maybe have some residue and different things on there that would cause the dog to indicate.”
An individual later came forward and claimed the luggage, and the scene was cleared at approximately 8:06 p.m. No criminal charges are expected.
Agencies that responded to this incident included the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Ashwaubenon Public Safety, the Green Bay Police Department, Brown-Outagamie County Bomb Squad, and the Brown County Highway Department.
