UPDATE 4/11/18 10:33 a.m.

A 14-year-old from Shawano County will be referred to the district attorney after admitting to creating a school threat at Sturgeon Park stamped into the snow that read “I go shoot up school.”

Chief Dan Mauel with the Shawano Police Department says the act appears to have been a joke, and he feels there was no intent to do any harm to anyone.

Mauel also believes that the teen was not involved in the first threat found at Memorial Park the previous week, where a threat was written on a park bench.

No other information is being released at this time.

The Shawano Police Department is investigating after finding a message stamped in the snow that spelled out “I go shoot up school” in the area of Sturgeon Park on Wednesday around 6:39 p.m.

Chief Dan Mauel says while they are unsure of the credibility of the message, they take all threats seriously. They added that student and staff safety is of the utmost importance.

The department says that they’ll continue their foot patrols in the schools and maintain their presence outside of the schools.
