UPDATE: Man involved in 2018 hit-and-run of Lawrence University student sentenced

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – James Hutcherson has been sentenced for his involvement in a 2018 hit-and-run of a Lawrence University student.

According to court records, Hutcherson was sentenced to one year in prison with Huber Privileges. Hutcherson will also have three years of probation.

Back in 2018, a 21-year-old Lawerence University student was hit by Hutcherson while crossing College Avenue. The student was hospitalized for several days with a head injury. Several days after the hit-and-run Hutcherson was taken into custody following numerous tips to the police from the public.

There was no further information provided, Local 5 will update this story if more information is released.

UPDATE: James Hutcherson has been convicted of a hit-and-run incident in Appleton

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV)- James Hutcherson has entered a plea and was convicted on Tuesday, July 6. The 46-year-old man was arrested back in 2018 for a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian at the Lawe Street and College Avenue intersection in Appleton.

A 21-year-old Lawerence University student was hit by Hutcherson while crossing College Avenue. The student was hospitalized for several days with a head injury. Several days after the hit-and-run Hutcherson was taken into custody following numerous tips to the police from the public.

Hutcherson will be sentenced in Outagamie County Court on Wednesday, September 15. Local Five will be following this story and will update this story as new information becomes available.

UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Lawrence University Area Hit-and-Run

FRIDAY 10/12/2018 8:24a.m. 

The Appleton Police Department has arrested 43-year-old James Hutcherson of Appleton for the October 5, hit and run at the intersection of Lawe Street and College Avenue.

On Saturday, October 6, video of the hit and run was released to news media and social media, which led to numerous tips.

Police say, on the basis of a tip, the suspect’s vehicle was located and seized as evidence.

On Thursday, investigators interviewed an individual associated with the vehicle.

Based on information learned throughout the investigation, Hutcherson was taken into custody and confined at the Outagamie County Jail.

Investigators are requesting a charge of Hit and Run-Causing Great Bodily Harm against Hutcherson.

He will make an initial appearance Friday.

Appleton Police are  asking for your help in a hit and run that injured a woman Friday night.

They released a video of the incident hoping to identify the driver or witnesses.

The incident happened at the intersection of East College Avenue and North Lawe Street just after 9:30 Friday night.
    
Appleton Police say the victim- a Lawrence University Student– was crossing College Avenue in the crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle turning onto College from Lawe Street–the driver then fled the scene. 
    
The car is believed to be an early 2000’s silver Jaguar model.
    
The victim is being treated at an area hospital for injuries.
