UW Green Bay offered a variety of rare plants for self-proclaimed botanists to view and purchase Saturday.

The university and it’s natural and applied sciences program held its annual heirloom plant sale at the greenhouse on campus.

More than 9,000 heirloom plants, vegetables, herbs and flowers were on sale.

Organizers say funds from the sale go toward helping students in the program.

“This plant sale is purely to raise funds to sponsor natural applied sciences students to do independent research and to attend scientific meetings to actually show off their research,” says applied sciences instructor Vicki Medland.

Last year’s sale raised more than $8,000 and supported research on Lake Whitefish.
