The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Wisconsin State Patrol have released video of a crash on I-41 near Kaukauna.
Law enforcement officials explained the incident illustrates the importance of the state’s Move Over Law and the dangers posed by impaired or inattentive drivers.
According to WisDOT, the crash occurred about 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4th along southbound I-41 near Kaukauna.
A trooper stopped a driver in a Toyota and moments after returning to his police cruiser, a southbound Pontiac crossed the fog line, just missed the police vehicle, and struck the pulled-over car.
DOT says, the driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The driver of the Pontiac was not seriously injured but faces several charges related to the incident.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash.
Wisconsin’s Move Over Law requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down when approaching emergency responders, tow trucks, utility or highway maintenance vehicles stopped along a roadway with warning lights flashing.
More information on the law can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website.
