Wisconsin cheeses come out on top in U.S. Championship Cheese Contest

Local News

The big cheese for 2017 is one made in Antigo!

Sartori Reserve Black Pepper Bella Vitano was crowned the best cheese in America Thursday night at the U.S. Cheese Championship at the KI Convention Center.

The man who produced the winning cheese says making it was a long process.

“It’s a cheese that was invented back in about 2005, as I remember it, and has gone through many many changes and evolutions, and we just keep working on it,” Mike Matucheski says.

The top three cheeses were all made in Wisconsin.

Coming in second, a cheddar made in Weyauwega and third was a gouda made in Thorp.
