TOWN OF DOTY, Wis. (WFRV) – After a shooting incident in Oconto County led to his sister’s death, a man from Baraboo was sentenced to prison.

According to court records, 30-year-old Christopher Halase was sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of extended supervision.

Some of Halase’s conditions for his extended supervision were:

  • No possession/consumption of alcohol, illegal drugs/durg paraphernalia – absolute sobriety
  • No entry to any establishment where the main purpose is the sale of alcohol
  • Complete all assessments, counseling and treatement deemed necessary by agent
  • Complete AODA Assessment and follow through w/all recommendations of treatment provider
  • No contact w/anyone known to use, possess or sell illegal drugs
  • Obtain GED

Back in 2020, Halase was taken into custody after his sister, a 31-year-old Reedsburg woman, was taken to a hospital following a report of shots fired. The incident happened in the Town of Doty, and Halase was taken to the Oconto County Jail.

Originally, Halase was charged with 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide, Homicide by Negligent Handling of Dangerous Weapon/Explosive and Operate Firearm w/Controlled Substance. Both the 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide and Operate Firearm w/Controlled Substance charges were dismissed.

ORIGINAL: Woman dead, man in custody after report of shots fired in Oconto County

TOWN OF DOTY, Wis. (WFRV) – A 31-year-old Reedsburg woman is dead and a 29-year-old man from Baraboo is in custody after a report of shots fired in Oconto County.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified of shots fired at a home in the Town of Doty on Friday just before 1 a.m.

Upon arrival, authorities immediately began life-saving measures on a 31-year-old Reedsburg woman. She was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries as a result of a gunshot wound.

Authorities say the woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

A 29-year-old Baraboo man was taken into custody and transported to the Oconto County Jail.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
