Work Zone Awareness Week hopes to make Wisconsin roads safer

Local News

The week of April 3 to 7 is Work Zone Awareness Week.

The event is meant to draw awareness to the necessity of safe and careful driving in work zones.

According to officials, last year there were more than 2,800 crashes in work zones in Wisconsin. Over the past three years, that number has not fallen below 2,000, for an average of more than seven crashes a day.

This year’s Work Zone Awareness Week theme is “Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands: Drive Toward Zero Crashes.”

Throughout the week, messages about work zone safety will be displayed along highways and on TV and radio. Expect to see more officers patrolling work zones as well.
