(WFRV) – While many first responses put their lives on the line racing to the scene of the shooting. The police are actually calling one of the victims a hero.

The family was at Fritse Park, enjoying the nice weather, when the shooter attacked, shooting her three times.

Though she was seriously wounded, Erin was able to get her two young children off of the bridge and to safety. Her 7 year old son was able to get help.

Erin has stabilized following surgery, but still has a very long road ahead. Doctors are optimistic she will recover.
