CHILTON (WFRV) — UPDATE: Police were called to a house on the 400 block of Madison Street in Chilton in for a tactical situation just before 11 p.m. Wednesday night.
Four agencies, including a SWAT team, created a perimeter around the home and nearby residences were evacuated. Contact was made with the family, who were sleeping and unaware of the call. Once contact was made, it was discovered the initial 911 call was a hoax.
Police were frustrated by the amount of resources that went into the apparent hoax
“It’s a lot of resources to call everybody in and do this, but (in) every situation we have to tactfully make sure safety is the up most importance,” Chilton Police Department Chief Craig Plehn said.
The scene was cleared around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Police say the family had received prank calls before. Police are working with the family to find out who is responsible and plan on pursuing charges for 911 abuse.
The incident remains under investigation.

It came in just before 11:00 Wednesday night as a shooting call and police did what they have to do, they took it seriously.
Officers quickly set up a perimeter, shutting down streets. The SWAT team was called in, ambulances were staged in the area, and a command post was set up at the nearby fairgrounds. All the while other officers were assessing the situation in the home, trying to talk to the self proclaimed shooter on the phone.
In the end officers awakened a very surprised family. The call was a hoax.
The Chilton Police Chief told Local 5, they had determined the call originated outside the home. You’ll hear from the chief on Local 5 This Morning starting at 5AM.
