They said it: Mike McCarthy on needed improvements to running game after Philadelphia: “We didn’t break tackles against Philadelphia. Our run offense wasn’t where it needed to be. The ball security as a whole, was not acceptable. We need to improve that. You can throw a band-aid on that, and say ‘it’s the preseason one,’ as you look around the league and you see a lot of that going on. That’s not the way you evaluate your own team.”
Aaron Rodgers on preseason snaps: “It’s preseason, so Mike wants to look at the other three guys for sure, extended time, to make sure he feels good about what we’ve got. We’re trying to work our timing in practice with young guys and with the new tight ends. We’ll figure it out as we go.”
Martellus Bennett on preseason reps with Aaron Rodgers: “I need all the reps I can with Aaron. Practice reps, game reps, meeting reps, any rep I can get with him I try to get. Whether it’s just whispering to him, you know trying to be the quarterback whisperer. ‘Hey, what you think?'”
Ty Montgomery on staying engaged while out of practice: “If we got a play call, I try to go through the play in my head. All the checks, what we need to see, and all the checks. Then I coach the young guys up.”
