APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Starting Monday the southbound on-ramp to I-41 from College Avenue and the northbound off ramp to College Avenue from I-41 will be closed for 10 days and the State Department of Transportation says traffic impacts from this project will be significant.

“Those ramps will be closed for 10 days starting early Monday morning and the ramp closures are needed because of the bridge repairs both at College Avenue and Spencer Street in the area,” said DOT Project Manager Bill Bertrand.

The closures are part of a $4.5 million project repairing almost nine miles of I-41 in Outagamie and Winnebago counties.

With these closures the DOT wants the thousands of motorists that typically use the ramps to be cautious and plan ahead of their travels.

“The northbound ramp is a little over 7,000,” Bertrand said. “The southbound entrance ramp has a little less than 6,000. Certainly we recognize there’s a large amount of travelers that use that, we would encourage people to look at alternate routes in advance of that.”

It’s because of those alternate routes that World of Beer general manager, Darold Doris, is not worried about business taking a dip for the next 10 days at the restaurant that sits just off of College Avenue.

“I’m really not worried about it too much,” Doris said. “I’m kind of figuring that with Wisconsin being open and being open, it’s easy for them to get around, and we’re World of Beer, you know if they want a beer, they’re going to make their way here.”

While Doris is confident in his customers he is worried about his employees making it into work on time and safely during these next 10 days.

“I’m a little worried about my employees coming in,” Doris said. “Um, if that’s a potential hazard we’ll communicate it with the staff and let them know that there’s a couple other exits. “

The interchange ramps are expected to open by May 14 and the DOT says the I-41 project should be completed by the end of July.
