Phoenix Players community theater will present the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in six performances starting next week in the historic 1918 Auditorium (Rexford-Longfellow School).
According to a press release: Performances are at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 1 p.m. Dec. 2, 7 p.m. Dec. 7-8 and 1 p.m. Dec. 9. Info: phoenixplayerswi.com.
The show is based on the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz. Book, music and lyrics are by Clark Gesner, with additional dialogue by Michael Mayer and additional music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa.
Brief vignettes span the months from Valentine’s Day to Beethoven’s Day, with characters ranging in emotion from wild optimism to utter despair.
Famed characters from “Peanuts” shape the show: Bossy Lucy (Maribeth Weidner) is in love with piano prodigy Schroeder (Michael Locke), who doesn’t give her the time of day. Perfectionist Sally (Tara Huber) is still mocking blanket-toting Linus (Ben Huber). Snoopy (Amanda Hein) is in the doghouse. The “blockhead” himself, Charlie Brown (Brandon Byng), is in true form.
Phoenix Players was formed in 2017 by Brandon Byng and Mary-Beth Kuester. The troupe is “dedicated to producing high-quality theatrical entertainment in Northeastern Wisconsin.”
Opening night Nov. 30 will include a reception with the cast and crew afterwards with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and refreshments.
