The Packers added a pair of pass rushers in free agency, and continued to haul in more talent on the defensive side of the ball with their first pick of the draft. That’s with Green Bay selecting Michigan defensive lineman Rashan Gary at number 12 overall.
Gary had a breakout season with the Wolverines as a sophomore, but didn’t have a junior campaign that many expected. Gary finished with 3.5 sacks in his season year in Ann Arbor after posting 5.5 the year before.
He played in just nine games last season due to a shoulder injury. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Gary has a torn labrum that will need attention at some point.
With a 6’4″ and 277 pound frame Gary has NFL size and after posting a 4.6 forty time at the combine he has good speed as well.
This offseason Green Bay signed Preston Smith, and Za’Darius Smith in free agency. That allowed them to pick the best available player on their board despite already adding a pair of pass rushers this offfseason.
