The Saint Mary’s Springs Ledgers came back to win the Division 5 state championship game, 20-17 over Stratford, a season after taking home the Division 6 state title.

The Ledgers found themselves trailing 14-0 late in the second quarter before Marcus Orlandoni busted out a 21-yard touchdown run to pul St. Mary’s Springs within a score. Later in the third quarter, Mitch Waechter connected with Cade Christensen for the 29-yard touchdown strike to tie the game, before Orlandoni’s 5-yard touchdown run with 2:18 left in the ballgame sealed their victory.

With the win, head coach Bob Hyland just captured a record 8th state title win. It was Springs’ eighth finals trip in the last 10 years, and 11th overall.
