GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - After a month in Arizona for Spring Training, the 2018 Timber Rattlers returned to Wisconsin. Their arrival also included the state’s impending spring snowstorm.
“For me, coming from Hawaii, it's pretty cool to see snow, so I appreciate it,” Timber Rattlers catcher KJ Harrison said. “Some other guys are like oh man it's snowing. I'm outside like oh it's pretty cool.”
“ I don't think many of them have seen snow,” Timber Rattlers manager Matt Erickson said. “We do have a few, but it's just a handful of kids on our roster that have seen snow, so this is an interesting day.”
Only seven players return to the clubhouse from last year’s squad: pitchers Carlos Herrera and Rodrigo, along with infielders Gilbert Lara and Trever Morrison and outfielders Demi Orimoloye, Joantgel Segovia and Zach Clark.
Despite finishing 20 games under .500 last season, expectations are high for the team, considering Opening Day against Beloit is just two days away.
“I heard Beloit's tough on Opening Day, but I'm excited,” Orimoloye said. “We've all been waiting for this Opening Day season since the season ended last year so I'm ready for it.”
“Yeah it's a great group, we're going to have a lot of fun,” Timber Rattlers outfielder Tristen Lutz said. “I think we're really talented, I think hopefully we'll win a lot of games and most importantly have a lot of fun and develop together.”
The Timber Rattlers kick off their season this Thursday, April 5 at Beloit. Bowden Francis will get the start on the mound.
