UW-Oshkosh guards Boots, Noone reach career milestones on same night

Senior night for the UW-Oshkosh basketball team featured a historic conclusion. Guards Charlie Noone and Ben Boots both joined the 1,000 point club at UW-Oshkosh.

“We’ve had a lot of great teams go through here and a lot of great players at this university so don’t take that for granted,” junior guard Ben Boots said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and my coaches so I’m really thankful for all of them.”

“I honestly didn’t even know,” senior guard Charlie Noone said. “I knew I was getting kind of close but I wasn’t really sure if that was going to be it or not. I kind of heard everyone’s cheering so I kind of assumed. It’s really cool.”

Even better? These best friends are the first duo in school history to ever achieve that feat on the same night.

“That doesn’t happen often,” Boots said. “He was just joking, saying he can’t shake me. I mean we do everything together. He’s my roommate and a great friend too, so no one else I’d rather get to a thousand with on the same night.”

“Yeah we kind of joke we always do everything together, so it’s kind of fitting that it happened on the same night, so yeah it was awesome,” Noone said. “He’s one of my best friends and it was really cool for him also.”

Noone needed exactly 15 points to reach that milestone. He scored exactly that and in the process became the 31st Titan to do so. Meanwhile, Boots as a junior, needed just two points. He finished with six.

“They’re great players, they’re great friends,” head coach Pat Juckem said. “They actually live together and for them to go over that milestone together on the same night is pretty special. I’m sure it’s something they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.”
