Brewers first round pick Kodi Medeiros got his first start as a member of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the home opener on Sunday. The twelfth overall pick proved from the start his abilities, but the Rattlers were not able to close out the game late.

Medeiros started the game with a strikeout, and went on to add another six in his Midwest League debut. The 18-year old left-hander out of Hawaii also kept the Chiefs off the base paths, leaving the game without allowing a hit.

The lone run for the Timber Rattlers would come in the fifth inning on an RBI double by center fielder Monte Harrison, but in the end it would not be enough.

Peoria’s offense came to life in the eighth inning. The Cheifs piled up seven runs in the frame. Then added another four in the top of of the ninth, and pulled away for the 11-1 victory.
