The Packers moved their final open practice of training camp indoors due to weather, and the leader of the pack sat out due to an illness.
Injury Report: Wide receiver Trevor Davis returned to practice on Monday after missing much of camp due to a hamstring injury. Running back Devante Mays, who has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury, returned as well.
Three other members of the Packers were held out of practice on Monday: WR Jake Kumerow (shoulder), LB Oren Burks (shoulder), and T Kyle Murphy.
News & Notes: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was not at practice on Monday due to an illness. Rodgers was not expected to play in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Chiefs regardless.
Wide receiver J’Mon Moore followed up his best performance of the preseason with a nice grab on a deep ball from DeShone Kizer in team periods.
Newly acquired linebacker Antonio Morrison made his practice debut with the Packers on Monday. Morrison worked through tackling and fundamental drills, and was seen close to position coach for much of practice.
The secondary continued a solid camp with interceptions by Marwin Evans, Tramon Williams, and Josh Hawkins on Monday. Evans pick of pass intended for Jimmy Graham capped off practice as the Milwaukee native spiked the ball to mimick the tight end’s touchdown celebration.
They said it: Antonio Morrison on being traded to Green Bay – “I had an off day. Just got a phone call saying come up here, and when they told me about the news I was excited to hear that actually. It will feel good to be in a different place, in Green Bay. It’s a business. I ain’t had no hard feelings. I just got to come here, learn these plays, and get on the field.”
Trevor Davis on returning for the final week of training camp – “I haven’t been out there to make plays, and show what I can do. Every year you’re trying to, I can’t base everything off past preseason and seasons. Every year you’ve got to come into it and really battle for a position. Especially here where we have good receivers. It’s going to be tough, but definitely interesting.”
Mike McCarthy on moving inside for final open practice – “I am dissapointed. I know it’s a tradition for our players to thank the fans. They never dissapoint. We have the best training environment. It’s interesting to talk to the players that have been to other places, not to disrespect other places, this place is special. It’s refreshing to go down there every day and have a full house, and great enthusiasm. So, it’s unfortunate we wont’ be able to do the traditional, say goodbye to our great fans.”
Brian Gutekunst on player cuts at the end of the week – “It’s never a fun time. You know how hard these guys have worked, you know how much they’ve put into it. There’s going to be guys that you know are viable NFL players that may help you sometime, and some may come back to you. I’ve been up here for six years, and have been through that process the way we go through it. This won’t be the first time I’m sitting across from a player talking to him about that. It’s always difficult, but I think the thing Ted always strived for, is to do what’s right for the team. There are difficult decisions but that’s our job.”
